After several rumor leaks, Asus finally announced the ROG Phone 8 series gaming cellphone. Different from the previous model, the ROG Phone 8 and ROG Phone 8 Pro maintain their high performance with a high-end chipset but have a different design from their predecessors.
The ROG Phone 8 series features the most advanced camera system ever integrated into an ROG series phone. Instead of a hard-core gaming phone, the new phone brings appeal to the everyday user.
The ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro have a 6.78-inch Samsung AMOLED LTPO display that offers Full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, 165 Hz refresh rate, peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits, glove touch support, and an in-screen fingerprint sensor.
Both devices measure 163.8 x 76.8 x 8.9 mm and 225 grams, making them thinner and lighter than the ROG Phone 7 series. The ROG Phone 8 comes in various colors, such as Rebel Gray and Phantom Black. Meanwhile, the Pro variant only comes in Phantom Black color.
ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The non-Pro model comes with 12 GB/16 GB LPDDR5x RAM and 256 GB UFS 4.0 storage,
while the Pro variant has 16 GB/24 GB LPDDR5x RAM and 512 GB/1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. Both devices have 5,500 mAh batteries that support 65W fast charging, Quick Charge 5.0, and PD charging. Both phones also support 15W Qi wireless charging.
The operating system it uses is Android 14 with the ROG UI user interface. Both ROG Phone 8 and Phone 8 Pro have a conduction cooling system for heat dissipation. The new AeroActive Cooler
ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro have a 32 MP RGBW camera for taking selfies. On the back, both phones have a 50 megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera with OIS support, a 13 MP ultra-wide lens with 120 degree FOV, and a 32 megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS support.
