Asus Zenfone 9 Review
After releasing the Asus ROG Phone 6 earlier this month, Asus is now releasing the Zenfone 9 for the global market. So what are the specifications of this phone?
Zenfone 9 seems to be inspired by the design language of Apple and Huawei phones. The frame is made of metal with two circles for the rear camera. The back and edges are flat, with a 3.5mm headphone jack on top. At the bottom there are speakers, a USB type-C port, a main microphone hole and a SIM card slot. On the right are the volume and power buttons with a fingerprint sensor.
This phone has a 5.9-inch SAMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Zenfone 9 has a pixel density of 445ppi, maximum brightness of 1100 nits, HDR10+ support, 112 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and delta-E<1 color accuracy. There is a punch hole in the top left corner for the front camera. The edges of the phone on the right and left are quite thin. But the edges on the top and bottom are quite thick.
The phone is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with a 4nm node. The chipset promises energy efficiency and better performance than its predecessor. The chipset is paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 internal memory.
There is an attractive touchpad on the power button that can be used for various purposes. Some of them are opening notification drawer, app shortcuts, camera and media controls.
Zenfone 9 has a slim form with a battery capacity of 4,300 mAh and support for fast charging 30W. The company claims that the battery can be charged from 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
Zenfone 9 has a dual camera on the back with a 50MP IMX766 main camera and supports EIS features. This sensor is accompanied by a 2MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide sensor which also functions as a macro camera.
While the front camera is 12MP IMX663. The front camera can record video at up to 8K 24fps with EIS and 4K at 60fps with EIS. The 12MP front camera with Dual PDAF can record sharp selfies and 4K video at 30fps (or 1080p at 60fps).
The phone also gets a pair of powerful speakers that are said to be on par with those on the latest flagship devices. In addition, Zenfone 9 is also waterproof and debuted with an IP68 rating.
Additionally, sensors on the back of the device allow users to touch the back of the phone to unlock the camera, flashlight, voice recorder, Google Assistant and media controls. ZenUI on Zenfone 9 has been customized for one-handed use with smart gestures for app drawer shortcuts, camera settings and more.
